South Dakota passes abortion ban

Wow![1] Those eggheads didn’t waste any time, did they? They didn’t even leave any room for cases of rape or incest. This is really going to cause the shit to hit the fan. I’m afraid to go blog surfing from what I’ll see posted.

According to the article South Dakota passed this law specifically so that it will be challenged in court. They want it to go to the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood has no choice but to challenge the law. This could really be it, folks. Wow, I can’t even wrap my mind around that one.

I would never have an abortion (because my religion forbids it- yes, my Pagan religion), but there is no way this should be legislated. Not at all.
It’s between a woman and her doctor. Everyone else needs to keep their noses out of it. Even if it is a moral issue then the woman having the abortion is deciding her own moral fate and that’s none of our business either. It looks like we may be descending back into the dark ages, folks.

You know, it’s only a matter of time before these activist pharmasists get their day in court too. Will they also ban the birth control pill/patch/shot? Good grief, I’m moving to a blue state for sure- to hell with the snow.

Hackett’s research targeted Brown

This is a little old (a full 2 days) but I wanted to address it. Another article, that I can’t find again, actually made this issue sound as if Hackett’s camp gave their information to Brown’s opponents. This article isn’t so cynical.

According to the article someone involved with Paul Hackett’s campaign allegedly did a little extra research on Sherrod Brown’s record before Hackett quit the race.

“For Sherrod Brown, the issue of terrorism presents a big problem,” a Hackett consultant wrote in an undated memo. A paragraph later, the consultant called Mr. Brown’s intelligence votes “evidence that Brown would be pummeled in a general election match-up, as we already know how Republicans use the issue of terrorism against Democrats.”

In August, 1993, his first year in Congress, Mr. Brown supported an amendment to reduce funding for intelligence agencies by 10 percent of what they’d received in the 1993 fiscal year. It failed by a 3-1 margin. Democrat Louis Stokes was the only Ohioan to vote with Mr. Brown.

Mr. Brown voted for similar attempts to cut intelligence budgets, most of them sponsored by Rep. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) or Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), at least once a year through 1999.

More Ohio congressmen sided with Mr. Brown on the cuts at decade’s end, including, on three occasions, U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland – now a Democratic candidate for Ohio governor.

The Hackett researchers also noted Mr. Brown voted against the entire intelligence appropriations bill in 1998 and voted twice to declassify Congress’ intelligence spending levels, which are secret. He opposed creating the Department of Homeland Security, along with establishing and reauthorizing the USA Patriot Act.

Mr. Brown also voted against amendments to a 2004 intelligence overhaul that aimed to increase the government’s power to detain and deport suspected terrorists.

Reading through all this has made me believe that Sherrod Brown is a little more vulnerable than Hackett would have been. However, I am not shy in saying that Brown showed not that he was towing the party line but that he was thinking sensibly. It doesn’t matter that he voted against intelligence appropriations bill, because we had the intelligence that could have (potentially) thwarted 9/11. And maybe he was actually voting against some crazy pork project- like a bridge from the mainland to an island with 50 people. (This from someone who used DeWine’s record against him recently…ha…see how it works?).

I’m especially impressed that Brown voted against the Patriot Act. I love anyone who did that. It shows me that he was concerned about the Constitution. That’s becoming so rare in D.C. This article makes it sound like these things will be detrimental to Brown, and I’m sure the Repubs will have fun with it. I think these make him look more honorable. It’s too bad. I’ll vote for him, but I still liked Hackett better.:P

Selling our ports for fear

Right now, in the dead of night, with my children sleeping, I am terrified of George W. Bush. I am terrified of his plan to allow the UAE to control American ports. I’m terrified of his motives.

The conspiracy theorist in me is rearing her ugly head. I’m sitting here wondering what possible benefit we would reap from allowing terrorist-sympathizers (at best) free access to some of our largest cities. I doubt very seriously that it’s for money. I believe that George Bush wants another terrorist attack to happen here. I believe he’s counting on it. What better way to take complete control of the country? After 9/11 he tasted the blood of power and he liked it. He has been slowly taking more and more control, but lately he’s been slipping. And nothing he’s said lately has made the populace feel any better about him. Another few thousand lives lost would solidify his power grab. We could lose everything we hold dear.

I know that I’m just a paranoid woman, but I want my children to grow up in the United States of America, as free women. I want them to be able to speak freely, to vote freely, and not worry about a manical tyrant ruling every aspect of their lives. Does that sound crazy? Well, like I said, the conspiracy theorist is alive and kicking tonight. There is really no logical reason why our president would be so willing to give our ports to a country that helped the terrorists that attacked our country.

And though our Congressfolk are starting to show some backbone (how could they not?) this means little to Bush. He is But if they pass a law, I’ll deal with it with a veto.“

Bush, who has never vetoed a bill as president, said on the White House South Lawn: “This is a company that has played by the rules, has been cooperative with the United States, from a country that’s an ally on the war on terror, and it would send a terrible signal to friends and allies not to let this transaction go through.”

Lawmakers from both parties have noted that some of the Sept. 11 hijackers used the United Arab Emirates as an operational and financial base. In addition, critics contend the UAE was an important transfer point for shipments of smuggled nuclear components sent to Iran, North Korea and Libya by a Pakistani scientist. [emphasis mine]

So he will once again go against the will of the people of the United States[1] to do the bidding of his oil-loving friends. But not just that, in my opinion. There’s a very real chance that terrorists could infiltrate the crews of vessels from the UAE, perhaps with the consent of the UAE, and gain instant and unfettered access to our country. I don’t believe for one second that George Bush has not thought of this and, in fact, is counting on it.

I hope against all hope that our Congressmen/women will continue to stand against the president on this idiotic venture and override his veto. I hope that the American people will flood their representatives and senators with mail and phone calls demanding that they protect us from our power mad executive. No good can possible come of the president getting his way on this one.

Well, no good for anyone but the president and the devil.

[1]It’s been noted by some Senators that they’ve never before received as many calls from their constituents as they have over this issue.

My Husband wouldn’t have the balls

Courtesy of The Smoking Gun we learn of Travis Frey, a 33-year-old father from Iowa, who is facing kidnapping and sexual assault charges for tying up his wife and having his way with her. Travis thought he’d get off scott-free because, according to the “wifely rules” this was to be the punishment for whatever infraction he deemed “noncompliant”.

You are to do everything that is expected or requested of you, if you do not you are considered noncompliant. You are also considered noncompliant if you start something and cannot or will not finish, even if you state you are in pain or something hurts. If you are noncompliant then you will lose three times the amount of GBDs that would have been given. If you don’t have enough GBD’s to cover the loss, then you will be tied to the bed and I will do whatever I wish to you. This will continue every night until you are ready to be compliance[sic], at which time you will need to apologize and explain how you are ready to be my sex slave again.”

What are “GBD’s”? Well, that stands for “Good Behavior Days”, which are free pass days that Mrs.Frey could use to ignore her husband’s “requests”. Obviously Mrs.Frey didn’t have enough GBD’s to get out of her punishment this time. So, what are some of the things that Travis “requests” of his wife?

  1. Shaving legs, underarms and pubic hair “from navel to anus” every third day
  2. Wearing only thong underwear and thigh-high nylons, as well as 2 in. high heels- unless she’s on her menstrual cycle (how compassionate)
  3. Being naked and ready 20 minutes after the kids go to bed, even if he’s not home (during her cycle she can wear a t-shirt and panties, but he gets to pick them out)
  4. Observe 3 hours of “My Time” Daily- she will be totally submissive during this time and be completely happy about everything she gets to do for him
  5. Allow him to take 20 nude pictures of her a month- in outfits and poses of his choosing

You really need to go to The Smoking Gun and see the document (they have a scanned copy up). Supposedly it was never signed, but still…

I wish that DH would hand me something- anything- to make me “submissive”. I’d wrap that thing around a thorny branch and shove it straight up his ass. Then I’d cut off his testes with a dull knife and stomp on them merrily. Honestly, what was this guy thinking? And how long did his wife put up with it until she went to the authorities? I’m fully aware of the psychology behind domestic (physical/emotional) abuse, so I’m not blaming her at all. I’m just wondering what finally snapped with her. There’s also this thing about child pornography (I couldn’t really get the details in my Google search) and I’m wondering if she found something to do with their kids.

Guys like this go to jail and generally get separated from the general (prison) population for their own safety. I really wish they wouldn’t do that with him. It’d be nice of some really big lifer decided to make “rules” for Travis to follow.
