Entrecard

entrecard ad Look to your right. See that little thing that says “Drop Yours” on the bottom? That’s the EntreCard1. I joined up last night and it’s way cool.

An explanation:
You upload a 125X125 image, aka ad, like you see above.2 Then you go to the “campaign” area and click on other people’s ads. When you get to their site you “drop” your card in their box. Then they know that you’ve come to visit. Theoretically the site owner will see your ad in their inbox and come to your site and drop theirs. Then other people can buy spots in the EntreCard widget on your site. The ad runs for a day and then someone else moves in. If a lot of people like your ad/site then the price of a day on your widget goes up.

I joined last night3 and immediately got bombarded with 9 ad requests. Well, shoot, I went ahead and accepted them all without looking. I’m stupid like that. Then I went through and dropped my “card” at a bunch of different sites. A lot of the sites weren’t my thing, but that’s ok. I got a chance to check them out and it gave me something to do. I’ll probably forget which ones they were and visit them again. *snort*

A couple of the sites were rockin’. I’m going to have to add those ones to my ever-growing blogroll. As long as you avoid the “Marketing” categories (anything with marketing is something my buds will want to avoid, for reals) you can find some really good stuff. I’ll dig around and get those links up for you sometime within the next year. I hope. :)

Oh! If you do join, watch out. There’s this thing that some of the money making blogs like to do which has been coined “New Members Rush”. Basically they’re staking out the “Most Recent” page and then jump on you to get a space in your widget. I was foolish and accepted one that didn’t even have a widget on their site. Bad, JJ!! It’s since been rejected. But anyway, make sure to look at the sites trying to buy advertising and don’t be afraid to reject them- especially if the make money blogging thing isn’t for you. Trust that they’ll reject you if you try to buy from them. And don’t accept any ads that didn’t bother to drop a card for you. Fuck that. When you first sign up your site costs 2 EC a day to advertise on so some of them won’t even bother seeing what your site is about before they try to advertise.4

Another thing that’s popular with some is they’ll accept your ad to boost their own site’s price. Then they’ll dump you. Say it costs 21 credits a day for you to advertise in my widget. So you lay down the 21 EC. I want to be the most popular blog in my category, which means my price needs to be higher, so I accept your ad. Then at the last minute I reject it. I’ve raised the price on my widget, got a little more popular and you’re shit out of luck. See how that works. So, before you accept advertising (or try to buy) make sure that you check the % of accepted ads rejected (how many have been rejected after initially being accepted). If it’s high, then hit the road. Those are the ones playing that particular game.

Personally, I think that’s some shady shit right there, but I’m not trying to sell anything here. I guess if I had adsense plastered all over the damned place I’d want to be sheisty to get more people to click. I don’t like that shit. But what do I know? I’m just in it for the cute skunk and new blog finding. Ya know?

P.S.

I’ve got a new Plugin (OMG!! Can you believe it?). It’s the WP-Footnote and if you click on the numbers it should magically carry you down to the footnote. How flippin’ cool is that? And you thought I was done with footnotes. Mwahahaha!!! *ahem* Please let me know if it’s all wonky. Thankee.

  4. This is all stuff I’ve gotten from the forums today- after I already accepted some ads that didn’t bother to click on my site to see what I was about. Oops. []
