This Imus bullshit is getting old real quick. I didn’t want to do a post about it, but some idiot said to me “That’s the price of fame. They want it now they’ve got to pay.” Bullshit to the umpteenth power.
The ladies on the Rutgers basketball team are students. They don’t get paid to play. They do it for fun or for scholarship or whatever. And I’m pretty confident that they didn’t do it to become super stars. Sorry, guy, but these ladies are never going to get the kind of paychecks Jennifer Aniston gets. That’s a fact. And, shit, most of them probably don’t even want that. If they did they’d be pimping themselves on Idol or any number of the ever popular “Who wants to be a star” type shows. No, they’re simply playing college ball. That doesn’t give Don Imus license to disparage them because of their race and gender. And that, my dears, is what he did.
Still, so what if they did make millions of dollars. That would give everyone the right to black mark their race and gender? Sure, I guess Paris Hilton does deserve the loathing that the American public has for her (in a weird sort of traffic accident kind of way) because she was born into privilege and acts like a complete moron. I don’t think she needs to be a role model to anyone and I can’t quite figure out how it is she’s getting all this publicity, but whatever. That doesn’t mean that any celebrity needs to deal with assholes just because their face is on a big screen or in a magazine or their voice is broadcast across the airwaves. In my opinion the only ones that deserve that kind of vitriol are the ones that push the envelope and do anything they possibly can to get noticed. That’s when it’s time to laugh and point. Otherwise, celebrities are nothing more than ordinary people who just happened to make it big. And they should be able to live a quiet life if they so choose. Of course, judging by the number of gossip mags and blogs and shows I’m clearly in the minority. Shame on me.
But back to the real issue. Those ladies are just college athletes who have lives outside of the limelight and don’t even get to make the big bucks because of all the publicity. So to say that they should just deal because that’s what they deserve for being a “celebrity” is completely asinine.
College Ball won’t make you rich

That’s just my opinion.
