I don’t have a whole lot of time for politics anymore. I know this is blasphemy to some people, but that’s the truth. I’ll get my happy ass out to vote tomorrow and throw a party in celebration of the end of political ads (for this year). It’s getting really ugly out there, folks, and it’s pretty much turned me off of t.v. and radio completely. This, though, is not the point.
I see that Saddam Hussein has been convicted. And if President Bush is to be believed this is a cause for celebration and a damned good reason to vote Republican. I, for one, am not fooled by this sham. The very second that Hussein was “found” I knew that he would be convicted- it was the beginning of the end for one of America’s newly dubbed Boogeymen. And since I like to consider myself a regular type of person, I imagine that every other American following the story knew what the outcome would be. So, why exactly is this cause for celebration here in the Homeland? Why should we care?
The man, after being dug out of his hole, was lame and could really cause no one any more trouble. We all knew that he would be sentenced to death, we just didn’t know what method would be used. What makes the GOP think that they can use this to bolster their poor showing? Because they are once again crying “Wolf!” and leading the blind down the alley of “Iraq caused the planes to go down, Saddam was Iraq’s leader, therefore Saddam must pay for dragging us into war over there.” Once that specter is raised, and because the real perpetrator (or so we’re to believe)hasn’t released any new tapes, the average uninformed American will go back to believing that Iraq caused 9/11 and someone has to pay for that. This, of course, leads back to Bush being president when Saddam was “captured”, making him the hero and all that follow him “good” for America. Does any of this make sense to you? Because honestly I’m losing myself in all the dreamland rhetoric and I need someone to explain why the GOP has saved us again.
Well, I’m certainly glad that this verdict came in when it did. The abortion/homo marriages thing just ain’t cutting it right now with down-the-middle voters. They’ve really got to have something to gnawl on if they’re going to push the screen in favor of Republican candidates. Nothing like really, really good timing. Now, if only the verdict will cause all of the guns in Iraq to suddenly be silenced, all the bombs to suddenly be disarmed, and all the chaos to suddenly just stop everything would be just hunky-dory.
Oh! And if they found what’s-his-name..um…that Osama guy. Where is he anyway?
Great. More Saddam.
