T.V., Movies, and HUH?

I admit that I’m mildly interested in the lives of celebrities. By “mildly” I mean “about as interested as I am in my neighbor’s life”, because, well, I’m nosey like that and shit. I am by no means obsessed and could not really care who’s having a baby and who’s getting a divorce. So, I don’t understand the fascination of most of the rest of the population. I’ve read “their lives are open to scrutiny because they’re celebrities and in the public eye by choice” blah blah fucking blah.

You know who else is in the public eye by choice? Your local gas station attendant. Is his life up for grabs too? Why isn’t someone trailing his every move trying to get the perfect shot? Why aren’t people snatching up magazines with him on the cover? Let’s see, who else? Oh yes, your friendly traffic cop. Now, I can almost see putting her face on the cover of the Inquirer. Sure, she writes tickets and shit. Why isn’t anyone interested in her life? She’s a very public figure. Isn’t she a role model even? What gives? I don’t understand.

I can see how you’d want to know who the mayor (or any other elected official) is diddling- to a certain degree. I mean, elected officials are representative of the population by whom they were chosen. And they get paid by taxpayer money and make public policy and generally affect everyone’s life in one way or another. Celebrities just, um, what’s it called? Oh, yes, entertain (or not depending on who we’re talking about). Their lives really don’t affect ours in any way positive or negative. Not really. And if by chance they do (say Jennifer Aniston’s hairstyle or the Dixie Chicks’ politics) it’s because we worship them and give them more power than they really should have. Honestly, if we didn’t pay to see them perform in one venue or the other then who would they be? No fucking body.

So, why are we so obsessed with people that are just getting paid to entertain us? Why do we dress like them, talk like them, demand to know every single move that they make every single day? I realize that they’re our “royalty” or whatthefuckever, but I just don’t get why people actually think it’s ok to pry into their personal lives or expect them to act a certain way in their personal lives- just to suit the public. Shit, I don’t even want a bunch a traffic to my piddly blog, I certainly wouldn’t want to live under the microscope like, say, J.Lo or someone. I think it would make me even more crazy than I already am.

On that note, I would like to ask What the fuck is up with “The Flavor of Love”? Lil’ Miss watches that stupid fucking show every once in a while and it just kills me. First of all, Flava Flav is and always has been butt fucking ugly. There’s no helping that man. Someone beat that man down with the ugly tree. No lie. And yet here are these beautiful (though dreadfully inept) women fawning all over him talking about “This is my man and I will be with him forever and these bitches don’t love him like I love him” Gag, puke, gag some more. Are we supposed to believe this bullshit? First of all, this man is after 1.) publicity and 2.) free snatch. And he gets plenty of both with this nonsense. Secondly, these chicks don’t love this man they love his money. And they want to be oh-so-famous. Puhleaze.

You know, the first thing this guy does is give these women new-and-improved names. Not nicknames. Just names he prefers (I guess). Um, no. There is no way in hell I’d let some ugly ass man with wads of money make up a name for me. Then proceed to humilate me by kissing me directly after he’s just kissed another woman. Can we say skanky whores? Yes, please do. That goes for Flava Flav! too. That show gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I told Lil’ Miss if she even thought about going on that show I’d disown her quicker than she could say “Flavor of stinking nastiness”. For real, yo.

That’s all from me I guess. Time to clog the arteries with some yummy BLTs.
