Seems that Adele Fergusen thinks that blacks should be thankful that their ancestors were slaves.
I have long urged blacks to consider their presence here as the work of God, who wanted to bring them to this raw, new country and used slavery to achieve it.
Gee, Adele, I don’t know what god you worship, but my goddess got overruled on that one and doesn’t agree with you. Well, you’ll have to read the article to get a full understanding of how well blacks have had it throughout history. Supposedly this piece is about the curiousity of blacks voting Democrat. Uh-huh, yup, and this next part is really going to convince them to hook up with the like of her.
A harsh life, to be sure, but many immigrants suffered hardships and indignations as indentured servants. Their descendants rose above it. You don’t hear them bemoaning their forebears’ life the way some blacks can’t rise above the fact theirs were slaves.
Besides freedom, a job and a roof over their heads, they all sought respect. But even after all these years, too many have yet to realize that to get respect, you have to give it.
Bow down to your masters, darkies, and be glad you’re here. Who cares that your ancestors were shipped here in the most inhuman conditions imaginable and treated worse than cattle? Who cares that your great-great-great grandmothers had their babies torn from their arms and sold to the highest bidder? I mean, come on! It was just as bad for white indentured servants (though they had a light of hope of becoming free and didn’t have to sacrifice their families and identities forever). All that stuff that happened after slavery isn’t important, either. There really wasn’t any need for black people to demand equality. They should all be thankful to be here. The only racism is that leveled at good, god-fearing white folks. We’re all in this together, Johnny.
You know, I’ll have to remember that the next time Little Miss wants to know why her high school refused to acknowledge Black History Month I’ll just tell her to shut her pie-hole and be glad she’s allowed to go to a white school.
