The comparison of terrorist, and filmmaker? The comparison of mass murderer and religious homicide to the tart political speech of a presidential critic? Are we kidding? Was there ever a moment of media history in which such an astonishing political assertion would ever have been deserving of anything less than the end of a career?

This is a very good post, in my opinion. But the poster assumes that the media have any agenda other than causing controversy and making money. And I believe the two go hand in hand. The more controversy they create the more money they generate through ad campaigns. Which news outlet do you honestly think cares about giving us only facts- honest facts- without also feeding us their made-up ideology?
They spout whatever they think will cause the most uproar, then set back and watch the dollars roll in. Because on either side you want to tune in to see what is going on. You want to hoot or boo depending on your own stance on any particular issue. And they have done exactly what they intended. Tomorrow their stance will change.
We give too much credit to the cable news channels and expect too much from them. They are no more than corporations pulling us around by the rings in our noses. They are no more responsible for the overall good health of our nation than Wal-Mart is. They scream “Breaking story!” when a dam in some obscure area of the country might have a leak. They break into regularly scheduled programming to let us know that Natalie Holloway still hasn’t been found (because that’s important). And yet we get upset when some blow hard corporate lackey compares Michael Moore to Osama Bin Laden or says that the liberal left is in cohoots with OBL. We know they’re full of shit. We know they’re greedy alarmists. And yet we scream foul when they say something we don’t like….Get over it. Recognize it for what it is, garbage. Would you get so upset with “The National Inquirer” for printing a story about a baby born with two heads?
I don’t watch the cable news. I find it foul and unworthy of my limited time. I don’t want to watch rich corporate lap-dogs waiting breathlessly to see if a downed plane is actually carrying a terrorist. I don’t want them repeatedly telling me that they have an exclusive story when I’ve seen the same information three other places.
I get my news from print and from the internet. I don’t have to look at the dreaded “hair spray hair” or the insepid half-smiles this way. And I certainly don’t have to listen to that disgusting imitation of a Midwestern accent. I don’t trust any media that I can actually see on my television.
So, I can’t cry and whine when they’re saying something that I don’t agree with. I don’t have to act amazed when one of their asinine “journalists” stands in the middle of a full-fledged hurricane to prove to us that the wind is blowing hard. I don’t see any of that when I get my news. I get plain old black and white words. And when they don’t jive with each other, I can go back and compare. Because that way I know that I’m getting information that’s important to me and not something some corporate pig decided was important to me.
Here’s some advice for those who are so upset by Chris Matthews, NBC, Fox, etal. Don’t watch. Find something better to do with your t.v. viewing time. Find a nice comedy or check out Discovery Channel….you’d be amazed at what you can learn about bridge engineering. And if your really must watch the news….Check out Comedy Central Monday-Thursday from 11pm to 12am. It’s fake news, sure, but you know it’s fake news.
